Finally! I true micro heli worth keeping! |
|||||||||||||
![]() Here is the kit. Awesome! I got it from GrandRC and with excellent service. Here you can see how I cut the frames to save weight. almost 12 grams! |
![]() Here is some of the heli next to the Dremel for size comparison. It's a beefy heli! I would say 99% baby raptor! |
![]() The frames together. So far everything fits perfectly. Again these are cut out to save almost 12 grams of weight. |
![]() I am using the Mega 16/3/15 motor. It seems quite strong. |
||||||||||
![]() Here is the tail section. Nice |
![]() Flybarless? Nah, just getting her done. |
![]() The canopy (while a bit heavy) is very nice as it is one piece and glossy. |
![]() Front shot. Canopy fits like a glove on the heli. |
||||||||||
![]() Split gear design. Very smooth. The little fan molded into the bottom gear really doesn't do anything. |
![]() Pitch arm just like the raptor. I also cut some holes into it to save on weight. |
I CAed a very thin piece of plastic (cut from a packing carton) to help with the gyro placement. I cut it to size. |
Here is the main head. I have each screw turned out about 1/4 turn so the ball can rotate on that screw. Make for very free ball links. |
||||||||||
Here is another pic of the setup. Very similar to the raptor, well identical if you ask me :) I am still contemplating CCPMing. |
Again, I cut the mounts off the servos when I used them in my Hornet helis. I bent thin aluminum and used Gorilla Glue to put them on. They are here to stay! |
Here is the pitch setup. I got the ball link conversion kit to get rid of all the z-bends. Very nice. I bent the pushrod just a little to get a straighter setup. |
NOTE:
I found all of the binding in my heli to be located with the ball in the swashplate. To fix it I put a bolt/nut though the ball and spun it using a drill at the highest speed for a min at a time. After about 3-4 min it was much looser and now runs smooth. Heat it up! |

| CCPM'ing the T-Rex
(1-15-05) Remember I cut the mounts off of the servos when I used them in my Hornet heli. |
|||||||||||||
![]() Here is the polycarbonate stock I used. |
![]() After the rough cut, I turned it down. |
![]() Again, I used an endmill as a boring tool to get the ring cut out. |
![]() Cut off tool makes easy work of this stuff :) |
||||||||||
![]() Done. I eye balled the 120 location by putting a Hornet 120 swash on top and marking out the holes. The brass spacers are from the kit, they are the bushings used behind the bearings. |
![]() Don't have a 120 degree guild? Just download this and print it out. |
![]() Here you go. Pretty simple really. Mounts are made of plywood and the servos are double side taped on. |
![]() The elevator mount is screwed into the cross brace and I have installed a twisty tie around it for more security. |
||||||||||
![]() Here is the anti-rotation guide. A simple piece of graphite with a slot and CAed to some balsa that is CAed and double-side taped to the servo mount and sides. |

FLIGHT
REPORT 1-16-05
INCREDIBLE!!!!! The CCPM is awesome and the heli moves and grooves! It rolls and loops on a dime. Finally a great flying micro heli stock or CCPM. Get one!! Watch out Raptor! |
![]() Here is where I have my bellcrank compared to the tail in neutral. |
||||||||||
![]() My tail servo. Again, I cut the mounts off when I put in in my Hornet heli so I cut a simple square out of carbon fiber and CAed it to the case. |
![]() My polycarbonate ring broke after I crashed into the basement wall :) So as I looked for a simple solution I found a Twisty-tie! We all know how strong they can be! Use a small piece on the front one too for same geometry. |
![]() Here is my setup for now. I will remake a lower swash in polycarb soon. The anti-rotation mount is made of poly and cut manually on the milling machine. 1-28-05 |

| Lower
polycarbonate CCPM Swash (1-13/14-05) Total time from CAD (which took the longest) to machining (had to do it twice) 3:28 min....wow. FIRST DOUBLE-SIDED PRECISION PART!!! Wanna See the Movie??? CLICK HERE |
|||||||||||||
![]() Scotch Double-Side Tapes holds it down. Here is the stock. A frame vendors sign; a wonderful clear piece of polycarbonate :) |
![]() I started by drilling a hole in the center so I could flip the part over and still find the center. Here the top apart is almost done. It cuts with easy. |
![]() After flipping the part, I stuck the drill bit back in and lined it up. The lower part was then cut. I got greedy on the first one, trying to cut it too fast and it snapped. The machines will let you know who is boss :) |
![]() On the lathe to give the edges a smooth finish. |
||||||||||
![]() 120 CCPM drilling. |
![]() Here is the completed swashplate lower half. The bearing fit is "beyond" perfect. I had to tap it into place. |
![]() On the heli. The antirotation mount was also made with polycarbonate but manually. |
![]() Awesome, awesome, Awesome! |
