LIKES
-Love the new canopy and stickers, very nice. - Smooth running heli with TLC
-Glad they got rid of the landing gear and went to a one piece design - Newer paddles screw on to flybar
-Lower carbon frame is very nice - Carbon boom supports, not sure how much they help
-Longer tail boom -Glad to see they added screws for boom mount and tail case mount
-Beautiful carbon main blades....but....
DISLIKES
-Expensive to fly, constant TLC to keep it working. -For a tiny heli, many of the parts are ridiculously overpriced
-Landing gear is very flexible, easy to bottom out and hit motor -Tail, tail and more tail, but much better on the H2 version
-Carbon Main Blades, while very nice, are way over priced at $50+ -Carbon blades are pitchy and twitchy :)

Here are the first pictures of my new Hornet 2! 3-20-04

servosetup.jpg (80194 bytes)
I went for the simplest approach on the tail servo. I used the 2mm carbon drive shaft from hornet 1 as the pushrod with drilled out clevises. I measured for 30mm between tail blades and stuck the servo down using Trinty RC Car double-side tape.
under.jpg (79749 bytes)
A picture of the underside. I have further separated the gyro and ESC to reduce any noise between the two. The heli is very glitch free!

FIRST FLIGHT

Incredible, rock solid! WOW
The Hornet can work! It really can!

wtx.jpg (64284 bytes)
Unbelievable in size and huge in performance! Here you can see the size of the Hornet 2 compared to my JR 8103. For the canopy, I painted it yellow and put on the stock stickers.

rubberband.jpg (105998 bytes)
Here is how I mounted the canopy. I first glued a small piece of rubber band around the landing gear legs to act as a cushion and noise reducer.

velcro.jpg (101539 bytes)
I than added 2 small pieces of Velcro, one to the servo and the other to the canopy. Very strong and very quite. 3-28-04

FIRST CRASH
I finally dinged it! I slammed it into a wall going rather fast on its side. Damage, surprisingly very little! The main blades cracked and the landing gear skids broke lose. That's it! Flybar wasn't even touched, go figure. 3-30-04

horaptor.jpg (35383 bytes)
Here is the Hornet after the little accident, good as new. I find the carbon blades more difficult to fly.
Happy April fools! 4-1-04

SMASHED AGAIN!!

Doh! Tuper-ware wins
over graphite main blades! Man, if this continues I am really going to be broke!

HORNET 2 SOLD

h2sale.jpg (140546 bytes)

I really had a blast with the little guy but it has gone to a better home :) It was pretty rock solid but just to expensive and need to much TLC to keep flying. I am glad to move on. No more "glued" helis for me.
